Yes. The INRatio received FDA clearance in 2002 as a prescription device for use by physicians by patients under the supervision of a physician.

How do I order more test strips or new supplies?
HemoSense does not sell directly to patients, so you will need to order your test strips and supplies through an authorized distributor. This is most likely the same company that sold you the INRatio monitor.

I’ve seen the INRatio products on eBay. Are these authorized by HemoSense?
No. It is illegal to sell INRatio directly to patients on eBay or otherwise, as it is a “by prescription only” device. The only authorized distributors for patients are listed on our Where to Buy page. Please note that HemoSense does not provide warranty service for, or guarantee the performance of, products acquired through unauthorized distributors.

Will my insurance company pay for the INRatio monitor and supplies?
Many insurance companies do provide coverage for the INRatio monitor and supplies. We encourage you to contact your insurance partner to discuss the details of your policy coverage, or contact one of our authorized distributors. They will be glad to work with your insurance company to help determine if your insurance will cover INRatio.

Medicare covers patients with mechanical heart valves who have been on warfarin for a minimum of 90 days.

I’m not sure the test result I received is correct. What should I do?
CONTACT YOUR MEDICAL ADVISOR IMMEDIATELY IF YOUR INR RESULTS INDICATE A SERIOUS MEDICAL CONDITION. If results are unusually low or high, repeat the test. If the result does not match your clinical situation, contact your physician immediately.

Who do I contact for customer service or product support?
You should first contact the company who sold the INRatio monitor to you. HemoSense has contracted with authorized distributors to provide training and support services to INRatio customers.

Do INRatio Test Strips need to be refrigerated?
No. Store strips at room temperature (below 90° F or 32° C) until the expiration date. Do not freeze. Store the strips in their original foil pouch until ready to use.

Does the INRatio need to be calibrated?
No, the INRatio does not need any calibration.

Do I need to run liquid quality controls to check for accuracy?
No. Every INRatio Test Strip contains two on-board quality control tests. These two controls are testing the integrity of the strip and sample each time a new test is run.

What are the normal ranges of the INR?
You should discuss any specific target ranges for your condition with your physician as the recommended INR ranges can vary from patient to patient. Your physician is in the best position to determine your specific INR target range.

Does the INRatio monitor need to be charged overnight?
The monitor is powered by 4 AA batteries or an optional AC power adaptor. No components of the INRatio require charging or re-charging.

Will the memory be lost if batteries are replaced or the monitor is switched to using a power supply?
The memory is not affected.

What is the measuring range of the INRatio monitor?
The INRatio measures INR results between 0.7 and 7.5.

When is a good time to start using the INRatio system?
It is advisable to transition when the patient has been stabilized within his or her target range for at least the last two readings.

When do the strips expire?
The strips expire on the last day of the month of expiration, printed on the strip pouch.

What type of sample should be used with the INRatio system?
A fresh 15 µL (micro liter) whole blood sample obtained from a finger stick is the only approved sample for use with the INRatio system. Any sample other than a whole blood finger stick sample may produce erroneous results.

Can I use any lancet?
Yes, as long as the needle is 21 gauge with minimum penetration of 0.81 mm.

Can I use a capillary tube for sample collection?
Yes, non-anticoagulant micro safe capillary tubes can be used. The minimum sample required is 15 micro liters.
